Wildlife Safety in Yellowstone
Never approach wildlife. The safest place to view wildlife is through binoculars or a spotting scope. Stay at least 100 yards (91 meters) away from bears and wolves. Stay at least 25 yards (23 meters) away from all other animals.
Never leave food for wildlife. They know how to forage on their own. If wild animals become used to human food, they may become aggressive while seeking it out. The park may have to euthanize an animal because it was exposed to non-traditional food sources. Don’t be the one to cost an animal its life. Keep all food in your vehicle and dispose of food waste in a designated animal-proof bin.
