Bio
Cody is a U.S. Navy veteran, wilderness guide, and conservation-focused photographer with a background in public lands management and expedition leadership. His experience spans ecosystems from the Greater Everglades Ecosystem to the boreal forests surrounding Denali National Park and Preserve, where he blends field-tested experience with a focus on conservation, safety, and meaningful time in wild places.
Cody grew up hiking, camping, and caving, often chasing old treasure stories across the country with his father, a prospector and rock hound. That early exposure shaped a lifelong connection to wild places and a curiosity for the landscapes and history behind them.
He has led multi-day backpacking, paddling, and caving expeditions, working with everyone from first-time visitors to experienced backcountry travelers. His time as a ranger with the National Park Service and as a Recreation Specialist with the Bureau of Land Management built a strong foundation in both guiding and stewardship. He has also completed two Outward Bound veterans courses, further strengthening his approach to leadership, resilience, and team dynamics in the field.
Cody’s expertise includes backcountry travel, land navigation, wildlife interpretation, and risk management in remote environments. He has spent years teaching navigation and Leave No Trace principles, focusing on building confidence and self-reliance. His guiding style is steady and direct: meeting people where they are and helping them expand what they’re capable of in the field.
His conservation work includes invasive Burmese python removal in the Everglades, dam removal and watershed restoration in the Ozarks, and cave and habitat restoration projects. As a member of the National Speleological Society, he has helped survey and map cave systems across the country, contributing to a deeper understanding of underground landscapes.
Outside of guiding, Cody is an expedition photographer and storyteller, documenting conservation work and the landscapes it impacts. He spends his time in the field as an avid backpacker, caver, and overlander, often pushing into remote terrain to better understand the places he works in. That time off the clock isn’t separate from the job, it sharpens it. Whether in Yellowstone or beyond, his goal stays the same: help people experience wild places in a way that builds respect, awareness, and a lasting connection to the land.
We loved our tour of Yellowstone! They picked us up in Bozeman, which was so helpful. Cody was very knowledgeable of the park. We saw beautiful scenery plus buffalo with their calves, grizzly and black bears, elk, mule deer, birds, swans, and ducks. We stopped for lunch outside the Old Faithful Inn and had a perfect view of Old Faithful. The Best of Yellowstone was a great tour for our first time at the park.
