Dallin Bartlett

Naturalist Guide

Dallin has been visiting Yellowstone since childhood, but his passion for the park truly took off when he became a National Park Ranger at his favorite place on earth: Old Faithful. Living in the Upper Geyser Basin, he often spotted bears outside his bedroom window, crossed paths with bison on his short walk to work, and took evening strolls on Geyser Hill with his wife. Eventually recognizing each geyser by the shape of its steam plume from miles away. It was then he realized—he had found his forever home. On tours, Dallin loves sharing stories from Yellowstone’s rich history, guiding guests to hidden gems, and pointing out fun details most visitors miss. For him, Yellowstone—and especially the Upper Geyser Basin—is more than just the greatest place on earth. It’s home.

Bio

Dallin has been working for the federal government since he was 17, beginning with the U.S. Forest Service on a Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Trails Crew in Utah. There, he discovered a deep love for long days and hard work in the mountains. He later served as a Forest Protection Officer, where he managed human-wildlife interactions, extinguished abandoned campfires, and helped enforce environmental protection laws across some of our nation’s most beautiful forests.

His path eventually led him to Yellowstone National Park, where he served as an Interpretive Ranger for the National Park Service. Fluent in Japanese, Dallin led tours and programs for Japanese visitors and friends, helping them connect with the park’s wonders in their own language. After his time in Yellowstone, he spent over a year in the U.S. Virgin Islands working at Christiansted National Historic Site, Salt River Bay, and Buck Island Reef. There, he conducted fort tours, mangrove surveys, and nighttime turtle patrols—further expanding his range of knowledge and interpretive skills.
But the call of the Rockies and the geyser basins was too strong to ignore, and Dallin eventually returned to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, where he feels most at home.

In his free time, you’ll find Dallin hiking, biking, or spending time with his family. He’s also an avid amateur historian, passionate about uncovering the stories of those who came before us. Whether he’s transcribing old journals or poring over 19th-century newspapers, Dallin draws inspiration from the seemingly ordinary men and women of history who left extraordinary legacies. On tours, he often shares excerpts from early Yellowstone expedition journals, believing that these firsthand accounts offer modern visitors a deeper connection to the park—through the eyes of those who experienced its wonders without the distractions of cell phones or crowds.
