Pranav Ratra

Astronomy Guide

Pranav has over 10 years of experience explaining the wonders of astronomy to curious minds from around the world. While Yellowstone is perhaps best known for its wildlife and geothermal features, Pranav sees cosmic connections to these topics that help us understand our place in the universe. Through his time teaching at schools, colleges, and museums across Canada and the Dominican Republic, and his participation in research projects at CERN and the University of Western Ontario, Pranav consistently underscores the interconnectedness of the world we inhabit and the cosmos that surrounds us. Leading stargazing tours in Yellowstone’s stunning dark skies is a dream come true for any astronomer, and Pranav hopes to provide his guests with one of the best possible opportunities to feel the same sense of awe and wonder he feels every time he looks up at the night sky.

Pranav has been guiding since 2026.

Bio

Pranav’s interest in astronomy dates back to his childhood in the early 2000s. Captivated from a young age by documentary series like The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene and Origins by Neil deGrasse Tyson, Pranav quickly discovered a deep fascination for exploring the inner workings of the universe on the smallest and grandest of scales. His explorations led him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Waterloo, during which he studied the formation and evolution of planets, stars, galaxies, and the universe itself.

In 2018, Pranav began teaching at a school in the Dominican Republic. After honing his pedagogical skills there for a year, he took on various other teaching roles, at colleges, museums, and even on YouTube. Then, in 2021, Pranav worked on research projects at the University of Western Ontario, searching for Kuiper Belt Objects, or KBOs, in the outer reaches of our solar system, as well as helping to build a comprehensive plan for a Canadian manned mission to the Moon and back. He also wrote and delivered presentations in collaboration with physicists from CERN in Switzerland.

Over the past decade, Pranav’s teaching and researching skills have enabled him to showcase the wonders of astronomy to students and enthusiasts from around the world. He has developed a deep appreciation for the cosmos, the importance of reconnecting with it, the majesty of its history, and the mystery of its future.

Pranav is a true believer in lifelong learning. When he’s not out stargazing, you’ll find him learning languages, playing chess, or writing music. When he’s peering through a telescope at his favourite cosmic vistas, though, his passion for sharing his knowledge is readily apparent, and he hopes to instill a childlike sense of wonder in all his stargazing guests.
